Romans 7-16: Come Follow Me with Sam

With my new calling in my unity, my normal time for writing my blog posts has been interrupted. Stake Conference was today so I'm making the most of it to catch up!  These will be short, but one day I plan to add more detail.

Top 3 things to think about in Romans 7-16

This may be one of the best sections of Paul's writings so it pains me to be so brief. I'm going to let Romans 8 take the cake for this reading

1. vs 15-17 - These very clearly spell out that we are children of God and that we can be co-heirs with Christ. I'm not saying we will ever be greater than Christ but I am saying that Paul is saying that we can be co-heirs in receiving the divine blessings of God. 

2. Vs 18

18 For I reckon that the asufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the bglory which shall be revealed cin us.

This is a very good perspective scripture. What we see today in no way compares to the glories of eternity in terms of travail.

3.  closing chapter vs of 35-39

35 Who shall separate us from the alove of Christ? shall btribulation, or distress, or cpersecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 As it is written, For thy sake we are akilled all the day long; we are accounted as bsheep for the slaughter.

37 Nay, in all these things we are amore than bconquerors through him that loved us.

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to aseparate us from the blove of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. 

This rounds out many ideas in the chapter including those in vs 18. It is important to understand that the universe runs on love. That is the soul power of all creation. On earth we metaphorically die each day in the face of our afflictions only to be raised again in the eternal love of the Savior. Nothing can separate us from this until one day we will literally be raised up and perfected eternally in the love of God.

Bonus! the Simple Gospel of the Way

 Am I writing a Gnostic text? I definitely titled this blog post like one. Maybe we should turn it over to the scholars and ask how close I got. Or maybe I'll be able to ask the gnostics one day. I'd like to share something I am calling the Simple Gospel of the Way. I'm sure many of you have been taught the gospels, the plan of salvation, or something similar to map your vector relation with God. Here is an approach that I hope helps. 1. We are separated from God. (Hopefully no surprises here.) Everything we do is to get back to Him. We are trying to close the separation. We are trying to become One with Him. 1 Nephi 11-15 - Come Follow Me with Sam

Welcome! Things happen to Nephi really quickly this week. What is interesting is that he sees a piece of the vision, then he sees a piece of the history of the world, then he goes back to the vision, then back to the world over and over again. It is like a hyper-converged vision with the symbols and the realities manifesting themselves almost synchronously with each other. And he leaves a lot out. Here are some of the highlights from my studies. The Condescension of God The angel focuses on something called the condescension of God. We'll talk about this more when we get to Abinadai. For now it may be good to hone in on why Nephi was taught about specifically that. There is (a little) more discussion of this on my sound recordings.
