Ephesians - Come Follow Me with Sam

Welcome! With my new calling in my unity, my normal time for writing my blog posts has been interrupted. I'm playing some catch-up today! Top 3 things to think about in Ephesians 1. 1:10 and 3:2 10  That in the  a dispensation  of the fulness of times he might  b gather  together in one  c all  things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth;  even  in him: 2  If ye have heard of the  a dispensation  of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: Paul literally talks about the dispensations both during and after his ministry. Dispensations are either directly or indirectly referenced in other places in the New Testament as well. Many Christians has assumed that the dispensation where Christ came down is the last dispensation, but Paul knew that there was a dispensation of the grace of Christ, and later there would be a dispensation where all things became one in Christ later...

Galations - Come Follow Me with Sam

Welcome! With my new calling in my unity, my normal time for writing my blog posts has been interrupted. I'm playing some catch-up today! Top 3 things to think about in Galatians 1. 2:20 20  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but  a Christ   b liveth  in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the  c faith  of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. There is an inscription on the gateway to an orthodox Christian monastery that says 'If you die before you die then you won't die when you die' (thanks ward radio and Rax WEblog). Think about this in relation to the above paragraph 2. 4:5-7 5  To  a redeem  them that were under the law, that we might receive the  b adoption  of sons. 6  And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7  Wherefore thou art no more a  a servant , but a...

2 Corinthians 8-13: Come Follow Me with Sam

Welcome! With my new calling in my unity, my normal time for writing my blog posts has been interrupted. Stake Conference was today so I'm making the most of it to catch up!  These will be short, but one day I plan to add more detail. Top 3 things to think about in 2 Corinthians 8-13 1. 8:9 9  For ye know the  a grace  of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was  b rich , yet for your sakes he became  c poor , that ye through his  d poverty  might be rich. Another one of those beautiful moments of the paradox of Christ and Christianity  2. 9:15 15  a Thanks   be  unto God for his unspeakable  b gift . What a beautiful, simple phrase that can become such a ready thought in our daily prayers.  3. 13: 7-8 7  Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that  which is  a honest , though we be as reprobates. 8  For we can do nothing...

2 Corinthians 1-7: Come Follow Me with Sam

Welcome! With my new calling in my unity, my normal time for writing my blog posts has been interrupted. Stake Conference was today so I'm making the most of it to catch up!  These will be short, but one day I plan to add more detail. Top 3 things to think about in 2 Corinthians 1-7 1. 1:4-5 4  Who comforteth us in all our   a tribulation , that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the   b comfort   wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 5  For as the  a sufferings  of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. there is a chinese  (Buddist?) phrase I learned: Having passed through suffering, one can now relieve the suffering of others. If we have Christ's sufferings abound in us, we can so much the better help others through His power. 2. 3:2-3 2  Ye are our  a epistle  written in our hearts, known and read of all men: 3  Forasmuch as ye are  manifestly d...

1 Corinthians 14-16

Welcome! With my new calling in my unity, my normal time for writing my blog posts has been interrupted. Stake Conference was today so I'm making the most of it to catch up!  These will be short, but one day I plan to add more detail. Top 3 things to think about in 1 Corinthians 14-16 1. A theme of chapter 14 is that you should seek to prophesy rather to speak in tongues. I don't think we should get too caught up in our conception of tongues and of prophesy here. Paul is saying something closer to "Even if you find spiritual edification for yourself that no one else could understand, it will be better for you to find edification that you can share with others that they understand. Christ set a humbling example of how we can seek to do this. 2.  15:40-41 40  a There  are  also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the  b celestial   is  one, and the  glory  of the  c terrestrial   is  another. 41...
