D&C 106-108: Come Follow Me with Sam

Welcome! the bulk of this week's reading is section 107, which talks of the priesthood and the organization of the priesthood.


Section 106

As a thief in the night

Of all the warnings we have received, the second coming will still overtake us as a theif in the night. I had the thought that we would be too preoccupied with the things of the world, or in other words, the new way of living will overtake our slower plans for changing to that new way..

God says "Therefore, gird up your loins, that you may be the children of light, and that day shall not overtake you as a thief.

Section 107

Section 107 lays out a lot of priesthood stuff. There is some juicy stuff in here :D but I think I'm going to hold off on certain things. dm me if you want the after party :D

S&S make the note that catholics look (or looked) at ministers as priests, very close to the hebrew levite model before Christs coming. They see the priests as a conduit 'because the people must draw near to God through them, as Israel through Aaron; because they alone can present the real body and blood of the Son of God as a sacrifice...' Protestants obviously deny this claim or they would all still be catholic.

Culturally, likely because of our hierarchy, we lean more towards the Catholic model but this is not in fact the model that we were given to follow. It is is something more of a stewardship that certain men hold to act under Gods name, but not a replacement for personal lines that all members who live by the right covenants have as part of the blessings of that calling and covenant. It also is not a replacement for the family lines of priesthood and connection, but an addendum, soutien, and support for that order. The aaronic priesthood organization is to support individuals and families in the temporal things and the Melchezidek priesthood organization is to support individuals and families in the spiritual things.

Here is a hint at some of those mind-blowing things I mentioned earlier. quote from Brigham Young:

If anybody wants to know what the Priesthood of the Son of God is, it is the law by which the worlds are, were, and will continue forever and ever. It is that system which brings worlds into existence and peoples them-gives them their revolutions their days, weeks, months, years, their seasons and times, and by which they are rolled up as a scroll, as it were, and go into a higher state of existence.


Section 108

108 is another of those personal sections. It is a look into the mind of God as it relates to an individual man. I don't have commentary because I don't think I can make it speak better than it speaks for itself. I am coming to enjoy a lot of these shorter sections for their personal nature and the understandign that comes with that.

Acts 22-28 - come follow me with Sam!

 Welcome! Bonus! the Simple Gospel of the Way

 Am I writing a Gnostic text? I definitely titled this blog post like one. Maybe we should turn it over to the scholars and ask how close I got. Or maybe I'll be able to ask the gnostics one day. I'd like to share something I am calling the Simple Gospel of the Way.
