D&C 76: Come follow me with Sam
Welcome! This is probably the most well-known section in all of D&C!
We get fixated on the three kingdoms and how its different from the normal Christian ideas of heaven and hell, but I would encourage you to focus on what this means. Here are a few beginnings you could think about:
1. We can see that our actions on earth are much more closely tied with our state in heaven.
2. We can see that God will help us go as far as we are willing, and bless us as much as He can within those parameters.
3. We can see that there is much we do not yet know, but that it has its order and plan and we can learn faith through this understanding
Section 76
My favorite part of the section
7 And to them will I areveal all bmysteries, yea, all the hidden mysteries of my kingdom from days of old, and for ages to come, will I make known unto them the good pleasure of my will concerning all things pertaining to my kingdom.
8 Yea, even the wonders of aeternity shall they know, and things to come will I show them, even the things of many generations.
9 And their awisdom shall be great, and their bunderstanding reach to heaven; and before them the wisdom of the wise shall cperish, and the understanding of the dprudent shall come to naught.
10 For by my aSpirit will I benlighten them, and by my cpower will I make known unto them the dsecrets of my ewill—yea, even those things which feye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor yet entered into the heart of man.
The pre-mortal drama
We know very little of the pre-mortal battle in heaven before coming to earth. When we read Job or Revelations or these few verses, we get an idea of the immense anguish and unfathomable joy of that struggle.
26 And was called aPerdition, for the heavens bwept over him—he was cLucifer, a son of the morning.
27 And we beheld, and lo, he is afallen! is fallen, even a son of the morning! ...
29 Wherefore, he maketh awar with the saints of God, and encompasseth them round about.
The strange fate of the terrestrial world
One thing I ask all the time is how to stay out of the terrestrial world and get celestial. Theoretically we make sure we make all the covenants, but I'm guessing we need to live up to them as well. Sometimes I feel like everyone is going to end up here. Other times I think that God's mercy will make acceptable a lot of the less than stellar valiance... I'd be interested to hear others' thoughts.
there are many honorable men and women but that is not good enough for what we are aiming for. You need to be more than honorable. That is clear.
75 These are they who are ahonorable men of the earth, who were bblinded by the craftiness of men.
76 These are they who receive of his glory, but not of his fulness.
How we worship God
93 Before whose throne all things bow in humble areverence, and give him glory forever and ever.
