Hosea and Joel - Come Follow Me with Sam
Welcome!
As we keep going through these prophets in exile, this is the conversation that keeps going through my head.
Prophets: Look what happened to Ephraim. It could happen to you
Judah: We don't care
Prophets: You need to change your path if you don't want this to happen
Judah: We don't care
Prophets: No seriously, if you don't change this now, it is going to happen.
Judah: We don't care
Prophets: Well its imminent at this point, it is about to happen
Judah: We don't care
Babylonians: Hello there
Judah: why did this happen?
Prophets: Glad you are finally ready to listen
Also Prophets: at this point, think less of deliverance now and more about deliverance in the meridian of time and in the last days.
(Judah: we don't care??)
Hosea
Hosea prophesied before the fall of Judah, but we can see in his writings that he knew exactly what was going to happen and he walked them through it.
The overall narrative of Hosea is walking through the covenant relationship, how it was broken, how it can be fulfilled, and how it can be healed, and eventually redeemed.
There are some choice verses in Hosea. Feel free to post them in the comments.
Remember that if you want to understand this covenant relationship, Hosea is a great resource because he explains it very well.
Joel
Reading Joel is moderately terrifying. He speaks of some pretty difficult scenes of the last days. The main point of his message comes in the last chapter. While this can be interpreted to let the wicked burn, while the righteous will be saved, I see it as Joel's call to arms in the last days for the righteous to reap in with the sickle that they may be part of God's mighty work to undertake the last harvest in the time the press is full and the fat is overflowing.
16 The aLord also shall broar out of cZion, and dutter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall eshake: but the Lord will be the fhope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.
17 So shall ye know that I am the Lord your God adwelling in Zion, my holy bmountain: then shall cJerusalem be holy, and there shall no dstrangers pass through her any more.
The conversation between Judah and the prophets is a choice commentary on prevailing attitudes. :)
